Nature4Nature consortium PhD project on filter-feeding in dabbling ducks
My research focuses on the functional morphology of the filter system in dabbling ducks. Through CT-scan imaging, 3D modelling and visualization tools, geometric morphometrics and detailed dissections of a variety of duck species, I will research the evolutionary history, fitration efficiency and functional morphology of the filter system. These results will be used in the analysis of current bioinspiration databases and tools and in the development of a novel open access trait-based repository that integrates biological and ecological information.
