Rimba, which means ‘jungle’ in Malay, is the name of Malaysia’s first non-profit conservation research group. Started in 2010 by a couple who saw the need for more conservation research to better inform decision makers managing threatened habitat and species, Rimba has since initiated various fundamental and applied research projects involving molluscs and mammals on ecosystems ranging from islands to hill dipterocarp forests. This talk serves as an introduction to the kinds of ecological and conservation research being undertaken by our research in one of Earth’s megadiverse countries. We hope that this ‘advertisement’ of Malaysia will kickstart discussions on how we can form mutually beneficial research collaborations to support the conservation of tropical and temperate biodiversity and habitats.
