Abstract: China hosts remarkable radiations of cave animals. The subterranean trechine beetles (Carabidae: Trechini), the most speciose and modified group of subterranean beetles in the world, are extremely diverse in the southern provinces or regions of China. So far, 146 species within 48 genera have been reported in China. The aim of this PhD project is to study the systematics, phylogeny, diversification and biogeography of the cave trechine beetles in southern China’s karsts based on an integrative approach focusing on morphology, molecular evolution and geography, with emphasis on adaptation to cave life.
